The Story Behind WombWiseWay

This Work Came From
My Own Healing

I didn't come to this through a course or a certification. I came to it through my body — through pain, through crisis, through the kind of suffering that forces you to find another way.

Meet Amrita

It began postpartum.

I was dealing with haemorrhoids after childbirth — something nobody talked about openly, something women were expected to simply endure and move on from. I found peri hydro steaming not because the world pointed me toward it, but because my body needed it and I was willing to listen. At that time, almost no one knew about it. It wasn't in the wellness magazines. It wasn't being discussed. It was something I found quietly, on my own, and held close.

Then, about ten years ago, my life changed in an instant. I was in a car accident. My nervous system became a complete mess — dysregulated, exhausted, in pain. My body was at its worst. Everything I had built my health on was being tested. Peri hydro steaming became one of the most important anchors in my recovery. The warmth, the stillness, the ritual of sitting with herbs and steam — it gave my nervous system something it desperately needed. A place to land. A way to come back to myself.

For a long time, I held this practice quietly. And then one day, Gwyneth Paltrow spoke publicly about her yoni steam experience — and suddenly the world was paying attention. She put it on the radar in her own way, and I believe she genuinely assisted in raising awareness at a time when this wisdom needed to be seen. That moment mattered. It opened a door.

But I had already been living it for years. And I knew there was so much more depth to this practice than what was being talked about. That knowing — that gap between what the world was saying and what I had experienced — is what became WombWiseWay.

As I deepened my steaming practice, I pursued formal training — becoming certified in the Qigong method, studying Traditional Chinese Medicine, and training in peri hydro steaming with Mantach Chi Master. These weren't credentials I collected. They were the next layer of understanding my body was asking me to find.

"I didn't find peri hydro steaming. My body led me to it — and it changed everything."

— Amrita Zaffino, Founder of WombWiseWay

What this work is built on

Personal healing

Postpartum recovery, a car accident, a nervous system in crisis. This work was forged in real suffering — not studied from the outside.

Peri hydro steaming

The core of everything. Peri hydro steaming — not one tool among many, but the practice that opened the door to Amrita's own healing and the foundation of WombWiseWay.

Qigong & TCM

Certified in the Qigong method and trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine and peri hydro steaming with Mantach Chi Master — formal training that deepened what her body had already been teaching her.

Cycle & lunar rhythm

Understanding the body through its natural rhythms — menstrual, lunar, seasonal. A map that most women were never given.

Plant wisdom

Herbs are not supplements. They are allies. Amrita works with the living tradition of plant medicine as it has been used by healers and grandmothers for thousands of years.

Education & community

Through sssh.ca and WombWiseWay, Amrita has built a space where the conversations women were told to keep quiet become the most important ones.

Teacher & Student

Elena & I

My daughter Elena and I are teacher and student — and the teaching flows both ways. We help each other grow into our best selves.

"

I didn't always know how to share my journey. There are things you carry for years — quietly, privately — because you don't have the words, or because the world isn't ready to receive them. Steaming opened the conversation between Elena and me. It gave us a shared language.

She received it. She grew into it. And then she grew into wanting to help others — which is the most beautiful thing I have ever witnessed in another person, let alone my own daughter.

Elena became a mother at 16. She steamed postpartum. She healed. And she has been a quiet co-creator of WombWiseWay from the very beginning — not because I asked her to be, but because she felt what this practice did for her and she wanted other women to feel it too.

"Mom — every woman needs this. Every woman needs to understand her cycle and steaming."

— Elena

That is the whole reason WombWiseWay exists. Not a product. Not a programme. A lineage — passed from mother to daughter, from woman to woman, from one generation to the next.

What our journey looks like

We heal together

Not one teaching the other from above — both of us in the practice, both of us growing, both of us changed by it.

Steaming opened the door

Before steaming, some things were hard to say. The ritual created safety — warmth, stillness, presence — and the words came.

Elena lived it first

She didn't read about postpartum steaming. She did it. At 16, postpartum, she trusted the practice and it held her.

She became a teacher

Elena's desire to help others didn't come from me. It came from her own experience. That is the most powerful kind of knowing.

This is generational healing

When one woman heals and shares what she knows, she changes what is possible for every woman who comes after her.

Amrita's note

"Elena and I are teacher and student — and we help each other grow into our best selves. I didn't always know how to share my journey. Somehow steaming opened the conversation. She received it, and then she grew into wanting to help others. That is the most beautiful thing I have ever witnessed."

The Philosophy

Remembering, Not Uncovering

"The wisdom was never truly hidden — it was forgotten, fragmented, and scattered across time."

The invitation at WombWiseWay is not to uncover a secret. It is to remember our relationship with ritual, rhythm, plants, water, breath, and the natural cycles that have always surrounded us. These traditions were never lost — they were waiting.

"The Ancient Key is not found in a temple ruin or a forgotten scroll. It is unlocked through practice. By sitting with water, herbs, prayer, intention, and the rhythms of nature, we remember what the body has always known."

— Amrita Zaffino, Founder of WombWiseWay

Water & Ritual

Across Egypt, Greece, India, Africa, and the Middle East, water has been medicine. Sitz baths, herbal steam baths, and fumigation rituals for reproductive health are documented in texts spanning thousands of years — from the Ebers Papyrus to Ayurvedic tradition.

Lunar Rhythm

Tracking health and ritual by the moon is one of humanity's oldest practices. The 28-day lunar cycle mirrors the menstrual cycle — a connection observed across cultures long before modern science confirmed the relationship between light cycles and hormonal rhythms.

Plant Wisdom

Ethnobotany and traditional herbal medicine hold centuries of knowledge about plants and the body. WombWiseWay draws on this living tradition — not as a claim to hidden knowledge, but as a respectful continuation of what healers, midwives, and grandmothers have always known.

Breath & Intention

Breathwork, prayer, and intentional practice are not additions to wellness — they are the foundation. The body responds to presence. Steaming with awareness, with gratitude, with a clear intention, is a different practice than steaming without it.

The Home of sssh.ca

The Conversations We Were Told to Keep Quiet

sssh.ca started as exactly that — a quiet place to speak openly about the things women are so often told to keep silent about. Hormonal shifts. Reproductive health. The full spectrum of womb wellness. Postpartum. Perimenopause. Puberty. Prostate. All of it.

WombWiseWay is the evolution of that conversation — bringing the same spirit into a deeper ecosystem of assessment, education, and community. Because womb wisdom shouldn't be a privilege. It should be a right.

A note on integrity

Much of what we know about ancient steaming and fumigation traditions comes from surviving texts, archaeology, and living cultural practices — but there are also significant gaps in the historical record. WombWiseWay does not claim exclusive access to lost knowledge. We present these traditions for educational purposes and invite you into your own journey of learning. The Ebers Papyrus, ancient Kyphi formulations, and the ethnobotanical records of bathing and purification rituals across Egypt, Greece, India, Africa, and the Middle East are all accessible through academic libraries and museum archives.
